SÚČASNÝ VÝSKUM

Roma Student Support and Talent Development Programme.

Comenius University is proud to be a partner on the Erasmus+ project, Roma Student Support and Talent Development Programme, pursued in a consortium with the EDUSOC, o.z., and Mathias Corvinus Collegium.
The pilot project aims to create linkages between universities and Roma communities to support access to quality education for disadvantaged youth in Hungary and Slovakia, via a support scheme for a selected group of Roma pupils to successfully complete highschool and progress to university. In addition, the project envisages bringing together relevant stakeholders from the public and private sector to seek measures for addressing the problem of access to quality school education in Central Europe.
In the span of the project, a selected group of Roma pupils in the last two years of highschool will receive tutoring support in relevant subjects for successful completion of highschool by current university students, in addition to mentoring support; as well as an international tour to visit universities. Furthermore, two international symposia will bring together stakeholders and experts to discuss the topic of access to quality education for disadvantaged youth in Slovakia and Hungary.
As a result of creation of the missing linkages, the key outcomes will be a successful completion of highschool and progression to the university by the selected group of Roma highschool students from the two countries, and delivery of relevant guidelines and policy recommendations on the suitable support measures in the area of access to quality school education for disadvantaged youth in Slovakia and Hungary.

Migration in EU Relations

Program: Jean Monnet Chair 611565-EPP-1-2019-1-SK-EPPJMO-CHAIR

Zodpovedná riešiteľka: doc. PhDr. JUDr. Lucia Mokrá, PhD.

O projekte / About the project:

EN: The primary goal of the project is to contribute to deepening the understanding of a complex and still understudied phenomenon of migration for this particular region. This will be done by innovative teaching that engages in both theoretical and empirical discussions; by teaching that involve lecturers with different background; through encouragement for the development of small research projects at the Master level on the topic of migration – translated in the form of Master theses; organization of  PhD workshops. The added-value of the project will be in complex information and understanding of migration based on scientific evidence, considering different practice in neighbouring countries in the region and the ambition is to contribute to the perception of migration as a social and economic phenomenon present in the current international environment. Expected outputs should contribute to ongoing debate on how international actors and states may manage migration as well as to perceive of migration by the general public. The teaching of migration in master study programme European Studies, with a possibility to be attended by all students of Comenius University in Bratislava, should be considered as a benefit in the shifting the position perceived by EU community in V4 countries.

Výučba / Teaching:

Migrácia v kontexte / Migration in context

The course aims at having an impact in the deepening of both theoretical and empirical knowledge in an area that is still understudied in this particular region. We aim at providing our students with the most pertinent tools to study and research migration. At the societal level, this contributes to desecuritize the highly securitized discourse about migration developed by the main political elites in Central Europe. The additional value of the topics covered within the course is in its focus on feminisation of migration and its aspects. This part of the lecture puts into comparison aspects of migration of women with different social background and coming from different countries. Students will have the tools and will be encouraged to write Master theses on the topic of migration, and expected output is the publication of the best theses in undergraduate journals.
Infolist

Medzinárodné humanitárne právo / International Humanitarian Law
The introduction of a new course of legal character, which is connected to migration is considered as necessary from point of understanding, why migration is coming from conflict areas and is perceived in this sense. There will be explained also economic and social connections, but the primary focus of the course should provide information to MA students of European Studies, International Relations and Law about the International regulation in the area of conflict and humanitarian law.
Infolist

Regionalizmus a globálne usporiadanie / Regionalism and the Global Order

EU and Social Media

Program: Jean Monnet Module 611970-EPP-1-2019-1-SK-EPPJMO-MODULE

O projekte/About the Project
EUSM – EU and Social Media - je kurz vedený v anglickom v bakalárskom stupni štúdia. Cieľom bolo tiež pozitívne ovplyvniť postoje študentiek a študentov k samotnej EÚ a širšej verejnosti prostredníctvom zmysluplnej politickej komunikácie. Kurz pomáha identifikovať a posúdiť povahu komunikačných vzorcov EÚ, čo  môže napomôcť rozvoju osvetových stratégií pre EÚ a umožniť šírenie vedomostí o Únii medzi širšiu verejnosť.
EUSM – EU and Social Media is an English taught undergraduate course, as a module actively disseminates information about the EU, through an innovative interactive element - using social media platforms, including the official EU websites. It also seeks the engagement of students with EU institutions and EU actors. The course taught  within the years 2019 -2022 sought to fill a void in the teaching of political communication on social media and was also driven by the need to tackle increasing political apathy, the distrust of political institutions and the disenchantment of citizens with the European project. The aim also was to have a positive impact on students’ attitudes towards engaging with the EU and the wider public through meaningful political communication. The course helps to identify and assess the nature of EU communication patterns; this can aid the development of outreach strategies for the EU and make the dissemination of knowledge about the Union to the wider public.
