Keďže tieto pan-ideológie obhajujú rasizmus a sebaorientalizmus, komparatívna a historická štúdia odhalí, prečo sú zakorenené v zastaraných pseudovedeckých teóriách zdieľaných pravicovými populistami.

About the project: SERIGO research project brings together 17 partners from 11 countries that address the needs of European rural areas that are facing social, demographic, economic and environmental pressures due to subsequent transformations and crises. The project aims to enhance resilience, social inclusion, and well-being of vulnerable groups in European rural areas through socially innovative solutions initiated by or involving actors from the social economy.
The project is:
- Conducting community-based participatory research through case studies from across Europe and pilots testing in five EU Member States.
- Fostering debates and collaboration on the topic among diverse stakeholders in Europe.
- Providing policymakers with recommendations for policy development around social inclusion in rural areas.
As part of the research project, the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University, focuses on mapping existing social innovations that facilitate the social inclusion of marginalized Roma communities, elderly people, ethnic groups and women in the municipalities of Raslavice and Turňa nad Bodvou. In addition, in cooperation with the municipality of Ostrovany, we will design a pilot solution, the goal of which will be the creation of a municipal social enterprise in a form of a community energy initiative. The social enterprise will be focused on exploring the opportunities provided by renewable energy sources as well as the circular economy. The aim will be to address various dimensions of vulnerability at the community and individual household level, including access to energy, employment and quality housing. Last but not least, the aim will be to examine the local impacts of the pilot project and suggest how social innovations could be replicated in other rural areas where marginalized communities live.
Overall, with a focused approach to addressing the challenges faced by rural communities, SERIGO is committed to harnessing the capabilities of social economy actors to drive inclusive development initiatives and support vulnerable groups in rural areas.

Abstract: ENDE focus on E-governance and Digital transformation in the European Union. It is a network including prestigious experts on digital transformation holding Jean Monnet actions on digital aspects (Module, Chair or Center of Excellence). At a historical period of renovation in the paradigm of society, E-Governance and digitalization have seen their implementation accelerated by the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, understanding, suggesting adequate implementation and promoting such a change in the model of civilization is a priority as scientific target of the network. The main working areas are related to the practical implementation of E-governance in the European Union, including areas as politics, economy, law, international relations and social aspects. The objective is understanding and foreseeing the fast development on the digital agenda that can change completely the perception of the European Union, its influence over the citizen lives and the external scope of the organization. The methodology depends on each expertise area as it is a multidisciplinary project with a common theme link with digitalization and the transformation of the society. Nevertheless, research will follow a similar structure with an introduction to the field, state of art, most problematic aspects and future possibilities of implementing digital reforms in the EU, including conclusions on their impact on the EU development. The common structure in research will facilitate the sharing and understanding of the scientific work of the members of the network, and the dissemination to decision making authorities (specially the European Commission) and the civil society in general. The network foster discussion and interconnection on the digital transformation of the European Union, facilitating the debate and a holistic understanding of the digital society for researchers and authorities.
The Post-socialist Societies and Culture under Green Deal (POSTGREEN)
Programme: Jean Monet Chair
Title: The Post-socialist Societies and Culture under Green Deal
Akronym: POSTGREEN
Principal Investigator: Juraj Buzalka
Implementation period: 2022 – 2025
Abstract: The objective of the project The Post-socialist Societies and Cultures under Green Deal (POSTGREEN) is to investigate, teach, and disseminate knowledge on the opportunities for the Green Deal to offer new ways for social and economic inclusion and innovation, especially in the post-socialist countries of the European Union ‘from bellow’, i. e. from the perspective of societies and cultures that are subjects of the green deal transformation. In order to make the upcoming European Green Deal successful, obstacles and stimulators of possible green transformation need to be identified, taking into account the legacies of state socialist modernisation and post-socialist transformation. The three year project intends to help students in understanding the way people in post-socialist European Union themselves imagine, practice and understand an environmentally conscious and technologically novel way of life and whether they endorse or reject the ideologies of progressive transformation. This bottom-up perspective needs to go along with and complement the top-down implementation and monitoring of future Green Deal policies. There is a threefold need about investigating, teaching, and disseminating knowledge on European Green Deal from bellow. The first is the legacy of transformations for and in the adoption of progressive policies. The second is the potential for alternative regional innovations under the (in)security of the upcoming Green Deal transformation. And the third issue arises out of “European society” and its demos, its eventual deepening and/or fragmentation.
The project is implemented by Institute of Social Anthropology of FSES CU in collaboration with Institute of European Studies and International Relations of FSES CU.

CASTLES WITHIN THE POST-PEASANT CULTURAL LANDSCAPE OF SLOVAKIA: SOCIAL EMBEDDEDNESS OF LOCAL INITIATIVES FOR RENOVATION AND UTILIZATION
Programme: SASPRO
Project number: SASPRO 3348/03/03
Investigator: Juraj Buzalka
Project duration: 9/2022 - 8/2025
Abstract: Present project aims to investigate the fragmented but interrelated local initiatives for renovating and utilizing castles in rural Slovakia. Since a vast number of castles had been suffering from devastation during the 20th century, the fall of Communism left Slovakia littered with castle ruins. The afterward democratization, decentralization and marketization opened room for a great variety of contemporary local initiatives of renovation and castle utilization, colouring ‘heritage arenas’ of local cultural landscape with reinvented narratives. This research project intends to scrutinize these castle maintenance projects, analysing primarily their embeddedness into local cultural landscape. The primary hypothesis of the research is that castles have had a significantly deeper-rooted embeddedness in post-peasant Slovak countryside than it could be judged purely from official nation-building narratives which speak about Slovak nation from the perspective of (re)constructed and purified peasant traditions. Precisely what (latent or manifest) values are attached to these heritage sites, and how these values are represented as well as reinvented in castle utilization projects, it would be revealed during the research project. During this research work, the particular role of local players – i.e. castle owners, managers, civil activists, etc – in castle utilization projects is also to be scrutinized. The work can be categorized most precisely as piece of social anthropology, conducted with a mixed methodological apparatus of comparative fieldwork: a) collecting local materials (accessible official documents, local news materials, etc), b) conducting semi-structured interviews with local stakeholders, c) and small-scale surveys in some cases among local civilians. As a result of the project, academic articles and a monograph is also planned to be issued.
