In which language are your courses taught?
Bachelor's and Master's courses in the Slovak programme are taught in Slovak and English. Students are expected to be proficient in English enough in order to read and understand professional psychological literature and understand lectures in English.
Bachelor’s courses in the English programme are taught only in English.
How do I choose courses for my plan of study?
You can choose your courses according to the Recommended study plan for your degree of study, which is published on the website. You need to take all compulsory classes. You can select which compulsory elective and which elective courses you take; however, you need to make sure that you meet the credit requirement in order to graduate.
A detailed description for the selection and enrollment in courses in AIS can be found here: https://uniba.sk/fileadmin/ruk/cit/ais/Prirucky/ZapisPredmetovP.pdf
How do I enroll in my courses?
The enrolment in courses is different for the 1st year of study (Bc) than for other years. Please follow the detailed instructions published on the website under the title "Instructions especially for students of the 1st year of bc at FSEV."If necessary, you can use the general guide for student AIS2 view.
Students enroll in their courses at the beginning of the winter semester FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR - that is, both for the winter AND for the summer semester.
We recommend enrolling all compulsory courses according to the recommended study plan.
I want to take a different course than I enrolled in at the beginning of the academic year. Is it possible?
Yes, courses can be changed during the first two weeks of the semester. The time window to make the change can be seen in AIS2 at the beginning of each semester. When you drop a course, you must drop it twice: you must drop the course in the schedule menu and you must drop the course in the registration menu. If you only drop it in the schedule, you will still be enrolled.
Can I enroll in a course offered by another faculty? What would it mean for my course credits?
You can enroll in any course offered by the University, but this course’s credits will count as ELECTIVE credits (even if this is a compulsory or compulsory elective class at another department). Before you enroll, make sure to submit an enroll request (https://fses.uniba.sk/studium/tlaciva-a-legislativa/). Your request is then processed by the study department. You are responsible for communicating with the teacher of this course.
Can I take a compulsory elective course instead of an elective course?
Yes, the study plan states that you can take 2 elective courses, and they will count as one compulsory elective course. Please note that it is not the other way round! Elective courses do not replace compulsory elective courses subjects. Elective course is a lower-level course, and that’s why it cannot replace a compulsory elective class. You should also be aware that any course offered by a different department or faculty that you might take will always count as elective, regardless of its classification by the other department.
I did not pass a class. What do I do now?
If you do not meet the conditions for passing a course, you will receive a failing grade (Fx), and you will get any credits for course. If you do pass a compulsory course, you must enroll in the same course and take it again when it is taught, i.e. in the next academic year. If you do not pass a compulsory elective course, you can 1) take the same course when it is taught again, i.e. in the next academic year, or 2) choose any other compulsory elective course next semester to replace the lost credits.
If I retake a failed course, will the failing grade (Fx) count towards my grade point average?
Yes, the Fx grade will not be deleted from Ais.

I am not able to submit my thesis on time. What options do I have?
If you are unable to submit your thesis by the due date (typically, the due date is 30.4., but please check the academic calendar), you need to request a later submission. Later submission is only approved for specific reasons and on an individual basis. Your request for later submission needs to be specified on a General Application form (https://fses.uniba.sk/en/studies/tlaciva-a-legislativa/) and submitted to the Department Head. Keep in mind that the Department Head needs to receive your request at least 30 days before the original deadline.
If you do not submit your thesis by the due date and you do not apply for a later submission, you will not be able to use the August defense dates, and you will have to wait until the next academic year.
Can I do my thesis defense at a different time than my state exams?
No. If you defer your thesis submission (your later submission request is approved, see above), then you have to complete both the thesis defense and the state exams together during August examination.
What should I do if I need Learning Accommodations?
Please contact the Support Center for Students with Special Needs. More information can be found here: https://uniba.sk/en/about/rektorat-uk/support-center-for-students-with-special-needs/
How do I defer my studies?
To defer your studies, you need to submit a request specifying your intent and your reasons (under the title General application): https://fses.uniba.sk/studium/tlaciva-a-legislativa/
Do you offer part-time study?
We do not offer part-time study options. If you want to study at our Institute, you need to be a regular full-time student. Students usually take about 5 courses per semester. It is possible to submit a request for an individual study plan, but this plan is approved on a case-by-case basis and its approval is dependent on individual student circumstances. If you are granted approval, it is your responsibility to reach out to your teachers, inform them about your individual plan, and discuss the course completion conditions with them. Keep in mind that some classes require your in-person attendance (e.g., socio-psychological training), even if you have an individual study plan.
Am I entitled to an individual study plan?
No. The approval is granted on a case-by-case basis and the decision is made by the Director of the Institute and/or the Dean. After you submit your written request, the Director and/or the Dean may allow an individual study plan if:
· A student has exceptional academic results,
· A student has special needs, taking into account the type and extent of the student's need for accommodations,
· A student has chronic health problems,
· A student has professional, artistic, or sports representation duties,
· A student is a primary caregiver of a child under the age of six,
· A student completes an academic mobility.
More information can be found here: Vp_2019_20_stud_por.pdf (uniba.sk)
What should I include in my application for an individual study plan?
The application must include a description of your life circumstances and an explanation detailing why you need an individual study plan. Students with special needs should consult the Special Needs Student Support Center page here: Procedure for requesting reasonable accommodation and support services for a student with special needs — Special Needs Student Support Centre (cezap.sk) If you are not a special needs student, you need to complete a general application form, which you can download here: https://fses.uniba.sk/studium/tlaciva-a-legislativa/
If my individual study plan gets approved, what would my study schedule look like?
The extent of study exceptions and accommodations is determined by the Director and/ or the Dean who approves the study plan. At the beginning of semester, the student is obligated to reach out to each of their teachers individually and agree on course completion conditions.
Am I legally entitled to an individual study plan?
No, unless you are a student with special needs. There is no regulation that requires the Dean to grant permission for an individual study plan. The Dean's decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Q&A Externship
Erasmus
I want to go to Erasmus, how do I apply?
All information about Erasmus+ can be found here: https://uniba.sk/erasmus/
Can I travel in my last semester? What will happen with the state exams and the thesis defense?
Yes, you can! Some students take state exams on time if they are able to fulfill their duties at the Erasmus university, prepare for the state exams, and finish their theses at the same time. Some students apply for a deferred date and take the state exams and defend their thesis in August. Please note that the August date is the last possible date for both the exams and the defense; if you do not pass one or both, you have to wait until the next academic year to redo the examination.
Which courses am I supposed to take when I go to Erasmus?https://fses.uniba.sk/fileadmin/fsev/uap/dokumenty/2023_2024/Questions_answers_prax_staz_AJ_BC_19.2.24.pdf
It is your responsibility to look up the list of courses offered by your Erasmus university. Usually, you can do so easily by going to their website. What courses you want to take is up to you, but the courses should be 1) in the field of psychology and 2) worth enough credits, so you do not have any trouble with your study progress.
We recommend choosing courses that have similar content to the courses offered by our Institute. Your Erasmus coordinator, Katarína Křížová, Ph.D., is responsible for course recognition upon your return from Erasmus, that’s why it is crucial that you discuss your chosen courses with her before you make any final decisions.
How are Erasmus credits recognized?
Credits are recognized 1:1. Credits are recognized only for successfully completed courses. If you successfully complete courses worth 30 credits at your Erasmus university, 30 credits will be entered into the Ais system.
