Social Anthropology (Slovak)

Social anthropology studies how people live in different societies across the globe, be it the inhabitants of the modern city, tribes on remote islands in the Pacific or employees in a business company, to mention just a few examples. Anthropologists seek explanations for human behaviour and how people understand their own world. Their research is based mainly on long-term fieldwork where they immerse themselves in the life of the society they study. The programme is for people with critical thinking and an innovative mind set who are interested in the systematic first-hand study of different social phenomena. Through field training, students learn the basic methods of data collection. The courses are designed to study the characteristics of different cultures - the study of religion, cognitive and psychological processes and the political or economic relations.

FUTURE CAREERS
Besides academic careers at universities and other research institutions, the focus on human social behaviour and cultural practices is used in various branches of business. For example large IT companies employ anthropologists to study how people interact with technologies. Human resources agencies use the abilities of anthropologists in observing and interviewing people to improve the social climate in companies. Market research companies increasingly observe and interview customers. There are also many career opportunities in various development programmes (state or non-governmental organisations).

SELECTED COURSES
